Genetic Screening

Genetic screening is a type of testing that's done during pregnancy to identify whether your baby is more or less likely to have certain birth defects.

These screening tests are usually performed during the first or second trimester. Most genetic screening is optional.

Genetic Tests Include:

  • Nuchal Translucency
  • Cell-Free DNA
  • Alpha Fetal Protein (AFP)

Because screening tests can't make a definitive diagnosis, your physician will discuss diagnostic testing if your screening results indicate an increased risk for a genetic disorder.
